Disclosure: HP is a client of the author.
At HPs Amplify event this week (which is focused on partners), I initially got excited about an update to my favorite laptop, the HP Folio. But what really caught my attention was the opening video, which shows employees in a variety of locations and situations working, and having fun.
I often wonder if companies and their leaders realize we are in a very different world than we were before the COVID-19 pandemic. Employees are rethinking priorities and whether they are working to create unions, thinking about resigning (the Great Resignation), or have tuned out (quiet quitting), the goal seems to be the same a renewed focus on work/life balance.
To read this article in full, please click here

Planned fixes for credit-card interchange fees will actually make fraud easier

I love it when organizations try and do something good, but dont think things through and end up delivering unintended negative consequences.
Todays case in point: the US Senate and the Federal Reserve, both of whom are looking to reduce high interchange costs, but are unintentionally increasing costs for merchants and sharply boosting the undiscovered fraud rate.
Android and ChromeOS. ChromeOS and Android. Has there ever been a more enigmatic and question-creating couple in the mobile-tech universe?
From the get-go, Google's two primary platforms have been the subject of endless scorn and speculation. Folks who don't actually use a Chromebook and haven't experienced ChromeOS since its earliest days have long been convinced that the platform serves no practical purpose and is destined for death.
As the world returns to the office, many people are finding themselves working in a new hybrid environment, where some of the workweek is spent at home and some is spent in the office.
Working from essentially two different offices can make productivity in both places challenging. A collaborative study from researchers at the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM), Stanford, the University of Chicago, and MIT found that six out of 10 workers reported being more productive at home than they expected to be, in part because they were able to cut out commute time and unwanted conversations with chatty co-workers. Your phone's virtual Rolodex is about as exhilarating as a trip to the endodontist.
Last week, I looked at some technologies that can solve the increasingly pernicious problem of robocalls.
They work great for individuals, but these intrusions on our time and privacy present a different problem for people who work in offices.
Of late, scammers have begun transitioning to corporate phone numbers because businesses live and die by their calls, says Matthew Mizenko, a senior vice president at RoboKiller Enterprise. They have to answer, thus exposing them to greater risk.
Automatically blocking or screening unknown numbers is risky since businesses cant predict who will call or why. Android security: Analysis, advice, and next-level knowledge

Link: ... tk.rss_all

Thu, 18 Aug 2022 03:00:00 -0700

It's tough to talk about Android security without venturing into sensational terrain.
A large part of that is due to the simple fact that the forces driving most Android security coverage are companies that make their money by selling Android security software and thus companies with strong interests in pushing the narrative that every Android phone is on the perpetual brink of grave, unfathomable danger. Plus, let's face it: A headline about 70 gazillion Android phones being vulnerable to the MegaMonsterSkullCrusher Virus is far more enticing than one explaining the nuanced realities of Android security.
In actuality, though, Android security is a complex beast one with multiple layers in place to protect you and one that almost never warrants an alarmist attitude.
